Ana Rita Teodoro
Your Teacher Please [Cumplicidades]
With the gradual disappearance of the first generation of butô dancers, it’s becoming essential to return to their studios and collect their transmission methods, paying attention to the effects caused in the body and in the presence of the students. By thinking of dance transmission, we look to restore the dynamic processes of butô fabrication, to better retrieve from an aesthetic that looks stuck in time and without a restored poetic background.

In the early 2000, while reading the book The House of the Sleeping Beauties by Kawabata, Ana Rita was touched by the descriptions of passage between the awake world and the dream world. She asked herself if in Japan would exist a dance that explored the threshold of dreams. Thanks to the internet, she started her first research that would lead her to participate in different workshops of Butô in Germany, France and Japan, led by artists and researchers. In 2015 she received a Scholarship from Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian to study at Kazuo Ohno Dance Studio and in 2016 a research scholarship from CND (Pantin) in which resulted the danced-conference Your Teacher, please.
