What are our frequencies? What moves us? What makes us move? What about your swing? Do you sway? Do the waves of the sea make you sway? Do you follow one direction or many? What happens when our body pulses back and forth? What happens to us when the other person sways? What energy does the body generate when it hears the sound of the sea?

Allyson Amaral presents Amaré, a moment of reflection in the midst of an ongoing research process, which began this month with an artistic residency in the context of apap – FEMINIST FUTURES (a project co-funded by the European Union’s Creative Europe program), in co-production with Teatro Nacional D. Maria II and Rua das Gaivotas 6, and in collaboration with Companhia de Dança Lia Rodrigues and Escola Livre de Dança da Maré.

When provoked by the sound of the sea and a possible imagined crossing between continents, the artist lets his body and his soul (a way of swaying) navigate through images that sometimes speed up and slow down, revealing layers of a being that is crossed at every moment. A body that makes images of itself which affect and extend over time. As the writer Leda Maria Martins says: “… every image (…) offers us something to think about: sometimes a piece of reality to gnaw on, sometimes a spark of the imaginary to dream about.” And if you don’t step on the ground, you can’t feel the ground. The sea is life, a pulse. Sea is life, pulse.

This public presentation, in the context of his research, is free to attend.

Allyson Amaral is a dance artist with a degree in dance from the Angel Vianna College (2007). He currently lives in São Paulo. His practice is centered on the search for a way of thinking about dance based on black cultural expressions, marked by black diasporas, especially Afro-Brazilian ones. In his work, he develops collages, samples and self-referential practices, proposing as a methodology the creation of an open and indeterminate system, establishing narratives cut out of spiral poetics between images, gestures and sounds.
Allyson was in residence during the month of January at Rua das Gaivotas 6, in partnership with Teatro Nacional D. Maria II and Escola Livre de Dança da Maré, as part of the APAP – Feminist Futures program. On February 3 at 4pm, Allyson will present the results of his research.
