The images that the works of Diana Carvalho and Pedro C. Paiva offer us are images that are open to an observation of the world beyond the concrete. Or in that which lies between the conforming world and that which would be another one as concrete as it is nonsensical.

They present us with objects – in any case, concretely, objects: sculptures, drawings, site-specific installations, sound – which, in turn, are offered as images. (And in another layer, images that hold other images).

This is a reading in possible stratification and that in itself, like that which it reads – the object-images in ” Para fora deste mundo não podemos cair “* – has the quality of that which opens itself to the possible. The same quality of ideative creation of the expressive resources such as synesthesia, metonymy and the image.

* The title of this exhibition is an appropriation of “Out of this world we cannot fall” (Freud, O mal-estar na civilização, novas conferências introdutórias à psicanalise e outros textos (1930-1936), transl. Paulo César Lima de Souza, 2010, p. 15), paraphrasing Christian Dietrich Grabbe in Hannibal, 1835.
