A diminutive for “Papá”, affectionately used by the offspring of the former; A tender name used for a child assigned male at birth, with whom one has (or not) a familial bond (variant: Papito); A word used to describe or fetishize a sensual, attractive Latin American “man,” with whom one has an emotional, sexual, and/or romantic bond (derivation: Papacito, as in “Chef Papacito,” especially if the person has culinary skills acknowledged by a certain group of people); A name given to someone with whom one has had a romantic partnership; A name attributed to a character with a pejorative and homophobic undertone, which can echo as real-life violence.
From the research they titled PAPI, José Gregório Rojas invites us to migrate through fragments, texts, songs, images and autobiographical body, in the work titled “PAPI [título provisório]”, reflecting on what, which, and how temporary can be the titles that precede our birth —and how do they endure after our “second-to-last” day.
