Hitchcock Blondes
Here, the word blond finds its place as merely an image. There’s a certain reaction that the filmmaker we speak of seeks to provoque and so, with that in mind, he uses the visual aspect fearlessly as he allows his intentions to successfully emerge onto the real world. The audience’s perception is then altered, their senses transforming them into live puppets, human-like objects ready to feed the master of suspense’s personal amusement.

When talking about “Hitchcock Blondes”, what’s being referred is a visual experiment that is majorly influenced by the universe of the filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock. The title should carry the viewer’s attention towards a specific kind of blond, the Hitchcock blond, that is seen covering the heads of many of his actresses. These light coloured locks served as nourishment for the director’s fantasies, not only the visual but also, very likely, the sexual. This was especially evident on Hitchcock’s behaviour towards Tippi Hedren, the actress whose name found its way to stardom due to her role in the 1963 motion picture “The Birds”, her later testimony revealing the director’s sick obsession.

This “visual experiment” reveals a wall between two colours, black and green. The black inspired by Hitchcock’s iconic silhouette and the green by “Vertigo” (1958), in which the filmmaker found the great potential of the colour while creating dreamlike environments, at the same time as he depicted, in a pervert kind of way, the feminine blond as something to be worshiped.
However, the visual won’t be taking over the entire experience, this theatrical act is also accompanied by an original soundtrack, inspired by the highly recognizable musical theme from “Psycho” (1960), composed by Bernard Herrmannn. With this tool, the viewer is transported towards the horrors of a film well known many.
