Pedro Penim & Filipe Pereira
DOING IT + FLORAL ARRANGMENT
DOING IT + FLORAL ARRANGMENT are two pieces presented together, that were originally created for a cycle of lecture-performances – curated by the Argentinian playwright and director Lola Arias – in which artists from different disciplinary backgrounds present a personal research, a radical experience, a story that secretly obsesses them.
The lecture-performance is an experimental and hybrid praxis that goes beyond the academic format of the lecture and that, by merging performance and educational aspects, enables a greater intellectual, emotive and affective commitment from the audience. This format that wishes to expand beyond the codified format of installation and performance and, consequently, assumes a heterogeneous performative promiscuity.

The director and actor Pedro Penim presents DOING IT and confesses a secret passion that takes him very far across the sea of Internet. An innocent and obscure addiction that he never revealed before: his “island collection”. Pedro has been researching, collecting and systematizing information about several uninhabited and/or remote islands for a long time and this piece intends to stage a discourse that gives some clues about this interest in isolation, evasion and in the demarcation of space. In DOING IT, Pedro brings the spectators into the mind of someone who is constantly seeking and makes us think about our own obsessions. What do we do in secret on our computers when no one sees us?
Choreographer and dancer Filipe Pereira presents FLORAL ARRANGEMENT, a lecture-performance about an artist born in Fátima (an important Catholic holy site due to a Miracle that is meant to have occurred there in 1917). Filipe grew up amongst gigantic processions, flower arrangements and religious souvenir shops and presents a journey that takes us through a biography that goes from faith to atheism, from virginity to sexual awakening, from the art of flowers to the art of dance and vice versa. Accompanied by flowers, choreography and stories, Filipe leaves us to think about how much of our past is in everything we do, how much of our destiny is written and how much is in our hands.
DOING IT + FLORAL ARRANGEMENT are projects created within the Portuguese edition of the cycle Mis Documentos by Lola Arias at Teatro do Bairro Alto – TBA, Lisbon – February 2020.
