Banana Being is the third work of a trilogy in which I propose to explore the excessive or obsessive relationship of the body with specific materials. In this proposal the relationship will be established with banana bunches that cover and transform the figure of a standing man. This hybrid body, manipulated by matter, puts the performer in a voluntary relationship with monstrosity, keeping the human aspect encapsulated inside.
This piece is composed of 3 moments. In the first moment, equivalent to a prologue, the audience witnesses the preparation and installation of the Banana Being with the help and dominion of a shibari artist. In the second moment we witness the maintenance, expansion, and destruction of the figure. It is the cathartic moment of this apparently monstrous being that affirms its deformed, sculptural, imposing body until its self-destruction.
In the third moment and as an epilogue, the audience is then invited to stay for a celebration. A post-party with the presence of a DJ and a bartender, where the drinks and appetizers are banana-based – an act of collective anthropophagy.
MATTHIEU EHRLACHER
He was born in Figeac (France), and in 1989 hecame to live in Portugal. He studied at the Escola de Jazz Luiz Villas-Boas between 2004 and 2009. From 2010 to 2012 she participated in the Program for Study, Research and Choreographic Creation of Forum Dança (PEPCC). He has created several pieces where she highlights At the table there is an accumulation of emotions attached by everyday cutlery, Cocoon a performance/installation supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, and HALE – study for an artificial organism created with the collective THISTAKESTIME. He was supported by O Rumo do Fumo from 2012 to 2017. He has worked and collaborated as a performer in pieces by Miguel Loureiro, Vera Mantero, Rui Catalão, Ana Borralho & João Galante, Xavier le Roy & Scarlet Yu, Jérôme Bel, André Guedes, Miguel Pereira, James Newitt, Salomé Lamas, Bruno Humberto, Anne Kerzerho & Loïc Touzé.
As a musician he has played with the bands Groove Intercourse, Farra Fanfarra, PuntzkaPuntz and They Must be Crazy.
Currently he plays with the band dUASsEMIcoLCHEIASiNVERTIDAS, and has been developing his solo musical project with saxophones, the artistic duo Papillons d’Éternité with Tânia Carvalho and collaborating with Andresa Soares.
