On July 18, we’re hosting our 5th AULARILOLÉ – a screen printing workshop divided into two parts: in the morning at Rua das Gaivotas 6 (10am-12.30pm) and in the afternoon at CPS – Centro Português de Serigrafia (2pm-5pm).

Screen printing is a printing technique that originated in China over 2000 years ago. It uses a mesh of nylon fabric (originally silk) stretched on a frame. The image is created by blocking out the areas that should not receive ink. With the help of a squeegee, the paint is pressed through the mesh, passing only through the open areas. The process is repeated for each color used. Screen printing is the ideal technique for flat compositions, creating a dense, subtle and silky impression.

Throughout the day, we will create a two-color screen print together and print it afterwards. In the morning, each participant will create part of the work by drawing directly onto the film. Then, working together, all the films will be organized and superimposed to form a single collective serigraph. At the end, each participant will print the piece and take a copy of the silkscreen with them.

You don’t need to have any experience or know how to draw “well”. You just have to show up willing to experiment, collaborate and get your hands a little dirty.
