Here one of Eschyle’s tragedies is revisited with modern-day Danaïdes, played by exiled Romas and actors. Hybrid and impure, the manifest theatricality documents both the body and gestures. Amélie Derlon Cordina’s film feeds the re-reading of the tragedy with the rugged, rocky, craggy landscapes in the area surrounding Marseille. Accents, dress, landscapes and eras are weaved together. The gesture of the refusal to submit is played out in the present and carried by a group of women that bring this ancient tragedy to life.
Os recém-chegados aims to organise screenings in Lisbon of alternative, international and contemporary films never shown in the city before. The selected films share a certain political consciousness and offer various singular poetic visions of the world. They challenge ways of approaching the real by using different modes of representation with desire to create new cinematographic forms.
Each evening will present a body of work. Director(s) will be especially in Lisbon to meet the audience.
Os recém-chegados is formed by three filmmakers recently arrived in town : Gaëlle Boucand, Pierre Carniaux and Thibault Solinhac.
