TABANKA through protection to healing
-
Monday-Thursday • -
OPENING: 12 april | mon | 5pm-8pm
Booking: Free entrance
Being on the margin is making part of a whole that does not recognize you as part of the main body. A world that I can go to, but I’m not supposed to live in. It implies a repetitive crossing from outside to inside. And with entering, comes the obligation to leave.
Going in I’m resisting violence.
Coming out, I’m resisting violence.
Between paths from the margin to the center and from the center to the margins, in an attempt to map strategies for an internal movement, from protecting against violence to healing at Tabanka.
. who is the subject of protection? . protect from whom / from what? . how to protect? . how to keep x subject safe? .
everything can be used except what is wasteful
(you will need to remember this when you are accused of destruction.)
Audre Lorde
What you need to remember: use without consent of the used becomes abuse.
SARA FONSECA DA GRAÇA
Sara Fonseca da Graça, n.1992, Almada. Degree in Theater from ESTC. Multidisciplinary artist. Co-founder of the collective Medalha d’Ouro, active between 2011 and 2015. In 2017, the first exhibition in Cape Verde marks the beginning of the solo path. Between writing, theater, painting, educational projects and other things, the form of expression is not the starting point, it adapts to the content, space and time where I try to register. From my Place of Speech, I question myself about problems of identity and social systems, the power relations that operate in society as repercussions of a colonial past.
