IN is a dance solo that focuses on the relationship between body and space, choosing specific places where movement can’t expand.
The body breathes with the space, accepting its limits. It is shaped by the encounter, taking deformation as a possible way of inhabiting the frame. Slow breathing is the basic rhythm of the performance, expanding the audience’s attention to other elements such as light, sound, skin, textures, and atmosphere.
“The back. Keep the head towards the feet to have the heart on the back. Let the dance come through the air, flowing between each vertebra. Let the dance come through the air. Let it flow inside. Create spaces so the inside can hold air. Give birth to the void, inside. More air in each tendon. Dance-bone. Dance-muscle. Breathing to adapt. Transforming the joints so that they fit everywhere. Forget anything in order to change: mapping the back. Having more neck in the coccyx and having more coccyx in the neck. Leg off. The leg is a wing. The foot is a hand. The arm is a leg. Turn without leaving. Turn till being the opposite without having to leave. Exit is falling. Inside. Deep inside. Being deep inside in order to knoe how to change without hurting. ” Zé Luís Costa
