We often describe performers as “having presence”. A certain something that makes us believe that they somehow exist more fully than everyone else. Is that simply a natural gift or is there a way to learn to be more present, to be more fully realised in space and in the way we approach performance? What physical/vocal/intellectual skills play a part in making us fully realised performers? Must we forget that we are being observed or fully embrace the gaze of the audience/camera? What is the difference between a solo, a duet or a group dynamic in terms of how we need to engage with ourselves and others?
Over the course of the two days I will be proposing various exercises based around idea of action and reaction in both the emotional and physical sense to various situations. Sometimes purely physical and sometimes based on simple texts.
Each participant should know the words to their favourite pop song and bring along a book that contains a descriptive text that they particularly like.
Come prepared with clothes that are easy to move in.
