Flaviano and Quintino are two brothers who, after their father’s death, plunge into the underworld of crime and drug abuse. The brothers have in common the description and the deep sadness for the loss of the father figure. Flaviano, who was arrested for assault, ends up finding his brother in jail, a meeting that lasts only minutes.
“Two pieces of chess” tells the story of Quintino, a troubled boy who in prison is subjected to excessive doses of largactil that end up affecting his head, the sense of reality and physical mobility.
The effect of largactil injections arouses feelings of anger that Quintino does not control. From a series of situations that arise in the chain, the play reveals the fears and how deep sadnesses are behind the character’s mind. The encounter with his brother is a key piece for Quintino to find memories of the past that were once happy and envision a future.
“Duas Peças de Chess” is the first staging by Joãozinho da Costa, who was the protagonist of “A Rapariga Mandjako” by Rui Catalão, a play inspired by episodes in his life story.
